What Exactly Do We Do?
As Global Servants for the Church of the Nazarene, our commission and calling is to “Make Christlike Disciples in the Nations”. As team leaders for Timor-Leste, it is our responsibility to see this commission accomplished in this small island nation. Below is an example of the work we lead and oversee:
Ongoing Discipleship
Making Christlike disciples in Timor-Leste is our commission, above all things. Making Christlike disciples who make Christlike disciples is even more so our goal. In the same way that healthy people grow and thrive, giving birth to new generations, so do healthy disciples and churches.
District Development
There is not yet an established district (official accountability network) of the Church of the Nazarene in Timor-Leste. Our goal is to see the work become healthy enough to be organized into the first district in Timor-Leste.
Church Development
With just a handful of churches and discipleship groups in Timor-Leste, the presence of the Church of the Nazarene, while growing, is still small. It is our goal to see new discipleship groups started, new churches planted, and existing churches strengthened,.
Compassionate Ministry
Timor-Leste is a developing country. Because of this, many people lack access to clean water, proper education, stable employment, and adequate housing. Our goal is wholistic, to improve the spiritual, physical, economic, emotional, and social health of the Timorese. See our projects page for more information.
Leadership Development
A growing church needs healthy leadership. Our goal is to create an environment in which existing and emerging leaders, through training opportunities, learning centers, and mentoring relationships, become healthy leaders.
Sustainable Ministry
Timor-Leste has experienced a rocky past. Long-term, sustainable growth has proved challenging or difficult for some organizations. Some have come and gone. It our goal that the work the Church of the Nazarene in Timor-Leste will be sustainable.
Our Financial Goals
In order to serve in Timor-Leste, we have re-occuring monthly and one-time expenses. Reoccurring expenses include those for food, clothing, housing, vehicle maintenance, educational expenses for our children, and other necessary ministry and living expenses. One-time expenses include expenses that usually do not reoccur monthly, such as airfare to and from Timor-Leste and visa-related expenses. Our goals are listed below.
